Charles Duncan Twigg

During an artistic career spanning over 35 years, the towns, cities and natural surroundings of the North of England have been a great inspiration to Charles Twigg. Living in Sheffield, a strong affinity with the local area is evident in many of his pictures.

Since retirement he has been able to broaden his body of work combining a love of travel with a desire to capture the very essence of a place, using pen and ink, watercolour and most recently digital photography on travels around the British Isles and Europe.

In 2002 he completed a 2 year residency at Lincoln Cathedral which culminated in an extremely successful exhibition of photographs, pen and ink and pastel work. He has also exhibited many times in the Sheffield area.

Charles’s pictures often focus on the details of scenes which may otherwise be overlooked by the casual observer; the intricacy of the knots tethering a fishing boat at Filey or the abstract patterns to be found only on close-up inspection of a single leaf or flower.

The transience of the beauty in the world around us is something that greatly interests the artist and is a theme which runs through much of his work.
